The Cluj-based mountaineer Vasile Cipcigan reached the top of Manaslu on Saturday, the 8156 m high peak in the Himalayas. On October 1st, at 7:45, local Nepal time, the 8156 m Manaslu Expedition – Performance for Cluj 2016 project has achieved its goals.

Vasile Cipcigan reached the Manaslu peak, situated at an altitude of 8156 m. Vasile started this expedition along with journalist Titus Claus, that has gone up to 6400 m. Vasile explained before starting the expedition, that the final ascent of the peak (from Advanced Camp C4 situated at 7600 m!) could take between 8 and 12 hours, and the descent about 4 hours. Vasile Cipcigan is group leader in the County Mountain Rescue Public Service – Salvaspeo Cluj and initiator of the project “Seven Steps on the Roof of the World”, which has resulted so far in the four successful steps: Elbrus (Europe) — 5.642 m, McKinley (USA) — 6.194 m, Aconcagua (South America) — 6.960 m, Kilimanjaro (Africa) — 5.895 m. Also, Vasile Cipcigan participated in the Khan Tengri 2008 expedition, as he was co-initiator and participant in the project “Manaslu 2013Romanian Expedition”.

The Manaslu peak in the Gurkha massif, situated in the Himalayas, is the 8th highest peak of the planet (8156 m). The name Manaslu is a derivative of the Sanskrit word Manasa, which in Romanian translates as the Spirit Mountain.
